Discover Canada with Wildlife Worldwide

Company Name:

Wildlife Worldwide

Name of trip:

Yukon’s Ice Bears

Destination (City, Country):

Yukon, Canada

Length of trip:

13 days (London to London)

Summary of trip:

Bear Cave Mountain lies in a total wilderness setting some two hours flight further into the interior by chartered helicopter from Dawson City in the Yukon, which itself is reached by a scheduled flight north from Vancouver to Whitehorse, with an onward connection the following day to Dawson City. At Bear Cave Mountain, four rustic yet comfortable huts, constructed in collaboration with the local First Nations people, and with space for just four people plus a highly experienced and knowledgeable  guide, stand beside the Fishing Branch River surrounded by forest.

Due to the presence of subterranean hot springs, the river continues to flow freely long after the surrounding countryside is frozen in the grip of winter. Huge grizzly bears pass just a few metres from the deck intent on fishing for salmon in the rushing waters, even though the air temperature is so low that their wet fur freezes into icicles virtually as soon as they emerge from the river! A one week stay during a short six-week window from mid-September to the end of October gives you a privileged and remarkable opportunity to see bears at heartstoppingly close quarters, as they go about their everyday lives oblivious to and completely unbothered by your presence.

Cost of trip:

From £10,950 per person
